Mission Statement
The Board of Deacons
shall be spiritual leaders as well as being living examples of servants in
the church in keeping with the biblical principals of the role of Diakonias
(Ephesians 4:12) and shall be responsible for the organization and function
of the worship services. Members of the Board of Deacons shall set an
example for worship and educational attendance, for gaining knowledge of the
Lord and His Word and for dealing lovingly with other members.
Membership
The Board of Deacons shall be comprised of five (5) active
members of the congregation of Grace Lutheran Church. Each member shall
have regular attendance at worship, Holy Communion and Bible study in
preparation for assuming the duties and responsibilities of the role of
Deacon of the church. Each shall be elected by the Voters’ Assembly as
specified in the By-Laws to a term of two (2) years, with one-half of the
members of the Board being elected in each successive year.
Qualifications
The Deacon should
not be a recent (within two (2) years prior to the nomination to the Board
of Deacons unless this requirement is waived by the Board of Deacons)
convert to the Lutheran Church, but one who is experienced in the faith and
the Word of God.
The Deacon should demonstrate a
love for the Lord and His Word by personal attendance at worship and Bible
study. The Deacon must be willing to spend any necessary time in
preparation for and the supervision of the worship services. The Deacon
shall strive to live his life in the Way of the Lord.
Meetings
Generally, the
Deacons shall meet once a month, more often if necessary, or as directed by
the Voters’ Assembly. The Pastor and the Board shall determine regular
meeting dates and times. The Pastor, President or Chairman of Deacons or of
two (2) members of the Board asking for the meeting may call special
meetings. Every member is to be notified in a timely manner of meetings.
Organization
The Board shall
select from among its members a Chairman for the year.
