Like actual shepherds, the shepherd ministry keeps watch
over the “flock”. Their purpose is
“To tend, to gather, to guard and to know if their “sheep” are in the
fold”. The shepherds are
intermediaries between the Pastor and the congregation (the flock). The pastor relies on them to keep him
informed of pastoral needs that may be needed. They also make calls to their “sheep”
when information needs to be disseminated to the congregation. The shepherds also make sure their
charges have their newsletters, tithing envelopes or other specific materials
that need distributed. They also
make calls to remind people about special events or services. The shepherd should also watch to see if
their people are attending worship services. A drop off in attendance is usually the
first indication of a problem. If
they see this happening they can call them and also refer it to Pastor.
